Our Story
Donna Russo, has dedicated over a decade of her life to improving the lives of those in need through her remarkable organization, Helping Hearts and Lives of Loxahatchee. As the founder of this 501C3 charity, Donna has touched the lives of hundreds of individuals and families, spreading hope and joy throughout the community.
Since its inception in 2013, Helping Hearts has been a driving force behind numerous events and initiatives that have made a significant impact on the lives of the less fortunate in Loxahatchee, FL. Through the organization's tireless efforts, Donna has orchestrated a series of events and gifts that have brought smiles to the faces of those in need.
One of Helping Hearts' early endeavors took place in May 2014, with a Toy Drive and Bunco Bash held at the Hamlin House. The event brought the community together to support Tami's family, whose father was hospitalized after suffering multiple strokes. The collective efforts of volunteers and generous donors resulted in an outpouring of support, both emotionally and materially, during this challenging time.
Throughout the years, Helping Hearts has consistently worked to meet the needs of families facing various hardships. In August 2015, Donna reached out to the community for assistance with their monthly Bunco Bashes. Due to her impending surgery, she requested that individuals donate gift cards to create raffle baskets for September's event. The proceeds were designated to help a family from the Kids Cancer Foundation. The response was overwhelming, showcasing the community's unwavering support for Helping Hearts and their commitment to making a difference in the lives of those in need.
The holiday seasons became a time of great impact for Helping Hearts and the community they served. In December 2017, Donna collaborated with Loxahatchee Groves to ensure that every child in need received help. They collected a wide range of items, including diapers, toys, clothing, and jackets, catering to various age groups and providing much-needed support to families during the festive period.
In December 2018, Helping Hearts compiled a list of 14 families in need of sponsors for the holidays. Donna reached out to the community, appealing for assistance in sponsoring children or families, or even purchasing toys and non-perishable food items. The response was remarkable, with individuals stepping up to provide gifts, meals, and necessities for children and families across Loxahatchee.
The year 2019 saw Helping Hearts organizing raffles to raise funds for Kiki's fundraiser. The prizes included tickets to a Chargers vs. Miami Dolphins game, a 50" Smart TV, and handmade crafts. The community enthusiastically participated, contributing to the cause and highlighting their commitment to helping those in need.
In November 2020, Helping Hearts identified a special needs family that required support during the holidays. This family, consisting of a widow with a 13-year-old son receiving therapy for autism, and other family members, was provided with a Thanksgiving meal, a Christmas meal, and gifts for the children. Donna's organization went above and beyond to ensure that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, experienced the joy and warmth of the holiday season.
Throughout the years, Helping Hearts continued to make a difference in the lives of countless individuals. In April 2022, the organization organized a community Easter Egg hunt, which attracted an overwhelming number of attendees. The event was a resounding success, bringing joy to children and families and creating lasting memories for all who participated.
The impact of Helping Hearts expanded beyond local events and initiatives. In February 2016, Donna and her organization joined forces with the American Cancer Society for the Acreage/Loxahatchee Relay for Life event. By contributing play-doh, bubbles, prizes, and volunteers, Helping Hearts supported the event and demonstrated their commitment to the fight against cancer. Their involvement showcased Donna's ability to forge partnerships and collaborate with other organizations to make a broader impact on the community.
Despite personal challenges, Donna's determination and resilience never wavered. In July 2023, Helping Hearts prepared for the "Fantasy Board" raffle drawing, offering over $1000 in cash and $120 in scratch-offs. The proceeds from this event would contribute to supporting the organization's ongoing efforts within the community.
